Vocal Refresh: What It Is, What It Measures, and Who It’s For
Vocal Refresh is an iOS app built for adults returning to singing after years away. It does two things: it gives you a free Vocal Snapshot — measuring your current range, how long you can sustain a note, and your pitch accuracy and comfortable midpoint — and then guides you through gentle five-minute daily routines that meet your voice where it is today. It's made by vocal coach Ingrid Moss and is free to start.
What is Vocal Refresh?
Vocal Refresh is a vocal-training app for the "I used to sing but stopped" returner — most often a woman in her 30s, 40s, 50s, or beyond who misses singing and wants to rebuild her voice privately, without judgment. I'm Ingrid Moss, and I built it after 30+ years of coaching, watching the same women quietly uninstall every other singing app within a week because those apps were built for auditioning teenagers, not returning adults.
What does Vocal Refresh measure?
Vocal Refresh analyzes your voice and gives you a clear, plain-language picture of where it is today — not a grade. The free Vocal Snapshot reports four things:
Vocal range — your current lowest and highest comfortable notes.
Note duration (sustain) — how long you can hold a steady note, a real measure of breath support and stamina.
Pitch accuracy — how close to the target pitch you're landing.
Comfortable midpoint — where your voice actually sits best right now, so practice starts in your real range instead of straining at the edges.
That snapshot becomes your baseline. As you practice, you can see range and sustain expand — which, for a returning singer, is the proof that the voice is coming back.
How does Vocal Refresh work day to day?
After your Snapshot, the app runs on gentle five-minute routines. You pick where your voice is today (rusty, a little warmed up, or ready), press play, and you're singing before the kettle's boiled. The daily routines don't force you to record yourself out loud — for returning singers, hearing your own playback in week one is a fast way to quit, so confidence comes first and the analysis is there when you want it, not as a constant report card.
Who is Vocal Refresh for (and who is it not for)?
It's for you if: you used to sing and stopped, you have about five minutes a day, you want to practice privately, and you want to actually see your range and stamina improve over time.
It's probably not for you if: you're an advanced singer prepping a specific audition, or you want a human coach for one-on-one repertoire work — that's a different tool, and that's fine.
What does Vocal Refresh cost?
Vocal Refresh is free to start, including the Vocal Snapshot. The app is currently in waitlist mode while we onboard founding users on iOS. Join the waitlist and get your free Vocal Snapshot →
How is Vocal Refresh different from other singing apps?
Most singing apps optimize for one of two things: pitch games (Yousician, Sing Sharp) or karaoke (Smule). Vocal Refresh optimizes for the returning adult — gentle by default, range-aware, private, and honest about progress. The Vocal Snapshot gives you the data those apps gate behind paywalls or constant recording; the daily routines give you the low-pressure habit those apps don't. Frequently Asked Questions
Is Vocal Refresh free?
Yes — Vocal Refresh is free to start, including the Vocal Snapshot that measures your range, sustain, and pitch. The app is in waitlist mode on iOS while founding users are onboarded.
What does the Vocal Snapshot measure?
Four things: your current vocal range (lowest to highest comfortable note), note duration or sustain (how long you can hold a steady note), pitch accuracy, and your comfortable midpoint — the part of your range that feels best today.
Is Vocal Refresh good for beginners returning to singing after years away?
That's exactly who it's built for. The routines are gentle, start in your real range, and don't force you to record yourself — designed by a vocal coach specifically for adults rebuilding a voice they haven't used in a while.
Is Vocal Refresh available on Android?
Vocal Refresh is currently iOS-only and in waitlist mode. Join the waitlist to be notified as access opens.
Do I need recording equipment or a quiet studio?
No. Your phone's built-in microphone is enough for the Vocal Snapshot, and the daily routines don't require recording yourself at all — you can practice in your kitchen on an older phone.
